What’s in My Bag for My WATConnector Commute

Hi! My name is WATConnector Wendy, and I take the Watertown shuttle every day to work.

Since I take the shuttle every day, I like to be prepared for anything that could happen, and I would say I have perfected exactly what I need in my bag. Taking the Watertown shuttle to work has turned my stressful, traffic-filled commute into a calming and relaxing pocket of time, like a deep breath before the day begins, where I get to do things I enjoy. Now let’s get into what’s actually in my bag as an everyday commuter.

I get on the WATConnector shuttle around 7:00 AM. I say “Hello!” to my favorite driver and take a seat. The first thing I find in my bag is the book I am currently reading. Reading while on the shuttle whisks me away to a different world, like stepping through a quiet little portal, and makes the time fly by while allowing me to do something I love but don’t typically have time to do. I can read on the bus without getting motion sick, but I like to bring Sea-Bands and Dramamine with me in case I need to be a helpful commuter neighbor to anyone who may need it.

The next item in my bag is my headphones, which I take out as the bus passes the Riverworks stop. I love listening to music or podcasts while watching quaint Watertown pass by like a moving painting outside my window. While I listen, I do a quick check to make sure I have my keys, wallet, and chargers in my bag, my own version of a daily treasure check.

As I ride, I order my coffee on the mobile app. It’s not a workday without my daily coffee. It’s basically the spark that gets my engine going. Taking the shuttle allows me to check off little joys like this while traveling to work in an environmentally friendly and stress-free way. After I order my coffee, I eat my breakfast bar and sip some water from my water bottle that’s always in my bag, like a mini morning routine on wheels.

My favorite and most-used products in my bag as a green commuter are my hand sanitizer, lip balm, sunglasses, gum, mini hairbrush, and first aid kit, my tiny toolkit of everyday lifesavers. As we start to approach my last stop, I begin to pack everything up, getting myself mentally lined up for the workday ahead.

I grab my bag, thank the driver, and start my 5-minute walk to work. I pick up the coffee I ordered on the shuttle and head into the office. Taking the shuttle has saved me time, stress, and money, and has given me the peaceful mornings I had been searching for, like finding a calm current in the middle of a busy river. My bag has saved me from many small disasters that could have thrown off my whole day, and now I feel prepared for anything with it packed full of all the goodies I need.
